We spoke to Anjali Siddhartha, a certified dietician and here are 5 foods she recommended that are fuelled with fibre.  

1. Apple

Apples have high dietary fibre and they work as great antioxidants. One medium sized apple has around 2.2 grams of fibre and it’s extremely advisable to have at least 1-2 apples every day. You can start your day with a hot cup of water mixed with honey and lemon and an apple. The nutrients in an apple help reduce the risk of heart diseases as well.

2. Sprouts

We are sure you’ve been reading about sprouts ever since you were a kid. Sprouts are one of the most nutritious food items you can consume. They are low in calorie but rich in fibre, minerals, vitamins as well as proteins. The presence of omega-3 fatty acids in sprouts helps you maintain your blood sugar levels. You can have sprouts anytime during the day in order to keep your hunger pangs away.

3. Quinoa

Quinoa is a flowering plant that has gained popularity in the recent times. It’s the only food that includes all amino acids and is a complete meal in itself. It’s easily available in the market these days and is super healthy. If you are someone who prefers eating gluten-free food, Quinoa should definitely be a part of your diet plant. It’s high in fibre, vitamins and iron. You can consume it in different ways and even have it every day for breakfast.

4. Almonds

Almonds are the easiest and healthiest way to consume fibre. If you are someone who is constantly on the go, you should always carry almonds with you because they give you instant strength. Almonds are rich in magnesium as well as vitamin E and help you keep your cholesterol level in control. They are a good substitute if you ever feel like eating anything junk.

5. Chia Seeds

Chia seeds come from a desert plant and are not grown in India. They are slightly expensive but once you add them to your diet, you’ll know that it’s worth your money. The word “Chia” means strength and they are full of fibre, omega-3 fatty acids, carbs as well as proteins. They are very easy to digest and you can consume it with different type of drinks as well as food.
