5 Food Items That Help With Hair Growth

Hair fall keeping you awake? It’s time to check what’s on your plate.
Hair Growth

Hair growth depends on 4 factors, age, genetics, health and diet. Out of these, diet is the only factor that can be controlled by us. If your family has a history of hair thinning you can do nothing about it but delay the process a little. Consuming food items that enhance hair growth can work as well. And this fact is true vice versa as well, if your diet is deficient in the nutrients that the following food offer, it can result in early hair loss. A recent study published in the Dermatology Practical And Conceptual Journal in 2017, shows direct connection between nutrient deficiency via diet and hair loss.

1. Eggs

A study done by the Department of Pediatrics, Philadelphia in 2017 shows that deficiency of biotin can lead to hair loss. Eggs carry a high amount of biotin and proteins, both of which enhance hair growth. Biotin is essential in the body for the production of keratin which is the hair protein.

2. Sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes are known to have a high concentration of beta-carotene in them. Beta carotene is converted into Vitamin A inside the body. Study published in the journal of Dermatology Clinic in 1988, showed that Vitamin A has the capability of slowing down the process of hair fall and  makes the hair stronger.

3. Berries

Berries such as strawberries and blueberries are rich in Vitamin C. A study published in the International Journal Of Cosmetic Science in 2015, shows that Vitamin C found in berries turn into antioxidants protecting the hair follicles from damage. Another study published in the journal of Dermatologic Clinic in 2013, shows that Vitamin C is also used to form collagen, the protein which helps strengthen the hair preventing it from becoming brittle.

4. Fatty Fish

Salmon is a fine example of fatty fish, they provide great amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. A study published in the Journal Of Cosmetic Dermatology in 2015 had 120 volunteers, facing the problem of hair loss. They were made to consume fish oil supplements and the outcome showed that the supplements had a positive impact on the hair loss.

5. Spinach

Spinach is a powerhouse food item. It is fully loaded with iron, shows a study published in the British Journal Of Nutrition in 1989. Furthermore, it also consists of Vitamin A and Vitamin C, both of which have been associated with hair growth. Another study published in the Experimental Biology And Medicine Journal in 2015 shows that Vitamin A plays a big role in hair growth. It helps the oil glands produce sebum which moisturises and nourishes the hair and promotes growth.
