‘Swipe right to like a profile and left to pass’ – we’re sure many of you might be playing this swiping game or may have at least heard about it from other Tinder users. Yes, that’s what Tinder is all about. It tops the global list of dating apps boasting 20 million matches till date. For those who don’t know (though we doubt that’s a possibility!), Tinder is a location-based mobile app that helps you connect with potential matches and also initiate conversations with them (if there is a mutual swipe). And though there is no harm in being a Tinder loyalist, it’s also unfair to deprive yourself of the fun of exploring other similar dating apps. And no, we’re not giving you the option of swiping left here; so go on and read!
“Meet new people through friends.” This is what Hinge, a dating app that was founded in 2012, offers to its users. Just like Tinder, Hinge connects you to potential matches, but instead of putting you face-to-face (well virtually) with random strangers, it uses your Facebook profile to find a match from your own friend list or your friends’ friend lists!
Bumble is another online dating app that was founded in 2014 and mimics the Tinder platform in different ways. Both parties need to swipe right in order to get connected, but the only difference is that the conversation can only be initiated by the woman. And there’s more, if she doesn’t start a conversation within 24 hours, the match automatically expires. So guys, Bumble is one dating app that you to have a very sharp profile!
This location-based mobile app works a bit differently. “Find the people you have crossed paths with” is the tagline of the app, which means that whenever any other Happn user crosses your path, their profile pops up on your timeline. Pretty cool, right? Also, you can actually see the number of times you have crossed paths with the same person.
4. Truly Madly
Truly Madly is India’s own dating app. It helps you find a match on the basis of your interests and other preferences and basically works on trust scores. You need to login through your Facebook profile to use the app and also verify your identity via mobile number, an offline photo-ID and other social media networks. All this information helps you build a good trust score. A unique feature of the app is that you can hide the profile of a person you don’t like. Also, only when there is mutual interest, can you see a person’s full name and start a conversation.
5. Coffee Meets Bagel
This dating app that was founded by three sisters – Arum, Dawoon and Soo Kang and works in quite a unique way: a guy gets up to 21 matches (known as Bagel) on a daily basis from which he can shortlist the matches he likes. And what about the women? Well, they receive suggestions from only those men who have shown interest in them!
Don’t these apps sound super interesting? We highly recommend making the effort to download at least one of them for a refreshing change from Tinder!
