Have you been doing it wrong all along?
how to wash your hair the right way

Washing your hair should be as basic as slipping on a black tee. All you have to make sure is that you are doing everything the right way. Many assume that washing your hair with a good shampoo and conditioner can do miracles. But that’s not all, washing your hair the right way is important for long, shiny and healthy hair. In an attempt to update you on the right way to wash your hair, we have listed few steps that need to be followed.

1. Detangle Your Hair

Before shampooing detangle your hair with a quality brush. Start from the ends and then work your way up. Detangling before shampoo will eliminate detangling after wash, when it’s wet. You should never comb your hair when they are wet as at that moment, hair are more prone to break.

2. Prepare Your Hair

To prepare your hair for the wash, apply some oil and gently massage it into the scalp. An oil massage can be beneficial in many ways. As it open pores and enable better absorption of the nutrients. Ideally, you should leave the oil overnight but if you don’t have time, even 15 minutes would be great. You can use pure argan, coconut or olive oil.

3. Rinse Gently

Start rinsing your hair with a cleanser best suited for your hair type. But the problem comes in choosing the right shampoo. Sulfate and paraben free shampoos are trending these days. They are best for colour-treated hair or maybe curly hair as they tend to be dry and frizzy. Don’t wash your hair daily as it strips the natural oil from hair. So, it’s advised to wash them 2-3 times a week. Also, don’t wash your hair with steamy hot water.

4. Apply Conditioner

After rinsing out the shampoo completely, apply hair conditioner. It helps in binding the hair cuticles and locking the moisture. Apply it evenly on the length of hair but don’t apply it on the scalp. It is also recommended to apply a deep conditioning mask once a week to address various hair issues, including brittleness or brassy colour.

5. Don’t Be Harsh On Your Hair

Don’t rub your hair with a towel or else it will create fiction. After towel drying, apply some serum or leave-in-conditioner to moisturise your hair.

6. Bonus Tip

Say no to dry shampoo as they damage your hair. Instead of dry shampoo, you can spray vinegar solution (add a few drops of apple cider vinegar to five ounces of water in a spray bottle) to remove oil. Dry shampoo might leave some residue but whereas, the vinegar is a wonderful tonic for the scalp.

Maybe shampooing your hair with these tips in mind, may take more time, but it will do miracles to how your hair looks and feels.
