United Colours Of Benetton Fall Collection

There are only a few brands that hold your fancy for as long as Benetton has. We used to wear it in college, and 20 years hence (we’re not that old, mind you!), it still holds the power to draw us back in the stores. Most trips to the malls these days are made to shop for the kids, but hey again, we’re not that old! We were invited to the preview of United Colours of Benetton’s Fall Collection preview. Here’s our impression of the Fall Collection that launched last week in Mumbai…

The Event

The event saw a lot of stylists, fashion media and bloggers at United Colours of Benetton’s flagship store in Mumbai. The latest Fall collection was displayed, which is available in stores for everyone to see, admired and shopped. The Creative Director of Benetton India who was present at the event took the crowd through the collection, talking about the inspiration behind it and how he has successfully revived some styles from the archives of UCB.

Styles like the Logo Shirts and T-shirts, which once were Benetton bestsellers but had been shelved for a few seasons have once again seen the light of day. Even Polo neck t-shirts that were once Benetton's star products and most sold have found their way back into stores across the country with the Fall Collection. UCB’s Fall collection aimed to be an amalgamation, where casual sport meets everyday street style and the event echoed this style sentiment in its entirety.

The Collection

The AW18 men’s collection showcased a good mix of checks, stripes and argyle patterns featured on colourful, modern knitwear. We got special tips on how individual pieces can be put together to create an easy layered look and with the changing season around the corner, the combination of jersey and wool seem to be the perfect choice.

Premium textured fabrics in a warm, rich colour palette was a sight for sore monsoon-struck eyes. The look for the season ahead is smart, tailored and heritage-inspired. It’s Benetton’s take on the dressed up look for modern day folks.

Italian style finds itself in the proportions of structured casual shirts, coats and jackets and in the silhouettes of pants and other outerwear. Street-inspired and crafted indigo collections were an elegant addition as well.

Deconstructed jeans, asymmetric cuts and cargo pants, that are great options for everyday wear were our favourites.
